The AED Accessory Kit contains all the essentials required for a CPR or AED (automated external defibrillator) rescue of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest victim.

Includes:

One CPR Pocket-Mask. This device is used to safely deliver rescue breaths during a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) or Respiratory Arrest. Air is administered to the patient when the emergency responder exhales through a one-way filter valve. Modern pocket masks have either a built in one-way valve or an attachable, disposable filter to protect the emergency responder from any potential mouth borne infections, and bodily substances, such as vomit or blood.

Note: This device makes the performance of CPR less fearful and burdensome (not wishing to perform mouth to mouth is a key reason cited for bystanders not attempting CPR).

Two Pairs of Nitrile Gloves. Gloves protect the key contact point with the victim (i.e. the hands) and allow you to work in increased safety. They protect not only from bodily fluids, but also from any dermatological infections that the victim may have. The first thing a responder should do when approaching, or on their way to a victim, is to put on their gloves; remember GO to the victim (Gloves On). Nitrile Gloves are the gloves most recommended for use during victim contact. This material is also rated for dealing with chemical spills. If you ever need to deal with chemical burns, these are the gloves to use (you can brush off dry chemicals with gloved hands if you use nitrile).

Shears. Defibrillator pads need to be applied to bare skin and not over clothing. Trauma Shears will help speed up removal clothing from an unconscious victim to expose the chest, for proper pad or electrode placement. Remember minutes matter when giving aid to a victim of (SCA).

Razor. The razor is for shaving those with very hairy chests that may interfere with proper pad or electrode placement.

Towel and Hand-Wipe stored in clip-on Carry Case. An AED (automated external defibrillator) delivers an electrical shock to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest victim. Water or sweat on the chest will cause the shock to become ineffective as electricity will take the path of least resistance (through the water on the surface of the chest) rather than through the chest. Before applying the pads or electrodes to the chest use the Hand-Wipe and Towel to clean and then dry the area of any excess water.
